The Pittsburgh Pirates defeated the Netherlands World Baseball Classic team today 5-4. The Pirates are on the kind of roll that could begin bringing fans back...okay, maybe not quite yet, but wishful thinking nonetheless.
The Netherlands team has a few bucco ties. Bert Blyleven, former Pirate pitcher, is the manager of the Netherlands team. Former Pirate, Randall Simon, is also on the roster.
Sidney Ponson was the starting pitcher for the Netherlands.
